This Christmas Eve at the Basin Reserve the Wellington Firebirds and Blaze won’t only be aiming for their first Dream 11 Super Smash win of the season against Otago - they’re supporting the extremely valuable Women’s Refuge Safe Night initiative.

Women’s Refuge’s Safe Night initiative aims to provide safe homes and shelter for victims of domestic violence. Every $20 donated on the day will gift a Safe Night of shelter for a victim of domestic violence.

Cricket Wellington has been supporting this initiative alongside our agency partners EightyOne for a number of years, and it’s a cause that unites New Zealand’s high-performing cricketers, and the cricket community beyond the comradery and competition played out on the pitch. And we’re delighted that this year Wellington and Otago are teaming up in support of Women’s Refuge.

“Cricket Wellington is delighted to be supporting Women’s Refuge once again in 2022, a cause that the whole Wellington Cricket Community is passionate about. Last year alongside Auckland we were able to support Women’s Refuge with 899 Safe Night’s donated, an achievement that we’re really proud of, and looking forward to contributing to again this year.” Cricket Wellington CEO - Cam Mitchell.

Tickets for Christmas Eve at the Basin can be purchased online, $15 Adults, $5 Children (up to 14 years), and collections for the Women’s Refuge Safe Night appeal will happen during the event. To donate a Safe Night and contribute to the Firebirds and Blaze, and Otago Sparks and Volt's Safe Night contribution, please use this link.

Fans are encouraged to head along to the whānau friendly event on 24th December to enjoy two thrilling matches of T20 Super Smash cricket, support their teams, and help raise money for an important cause. This event will be the first Super Smash match of the season to be held at the Cello Basin Reserve, a great opportunity for locals to get in on the action.

Super Smash, New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition, culminates in the womens and mens final to be held on the 11th February.
