Long-time Blaze bowler and ex-captain Dee Doughty has called time on her professional career, which has spanned 13 years and 155 Blaze appearances. Doughty’s last outing for Wellington came when the team hosted Northern Districts at the Hutt Recreation Ground for a HBJ Shield fixture in 2023.
“It’s been an amazing privilege to have represented Wellington for over a decade”, said Doughty.
“The people I’ve been able to share this journey with have formed some friendships that will last a lifetime and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made my journey a possibility.”
“I’ve accomplished some amazing things with Wellington and those memories I will hold with me for a long time. There are too many people to thank individually as a part of this journey, but it really does take a village, so a huge thank you to everybody who has been involved.”
Doughty, who debuted for Wellington in the 2011/12 summer, took 177 wickets in her Blaze career, averaging 17.60 in T20 cricket and 24.23 in the One Day format, including two five-wicket hauls.
On top of a lengthy career with the Blaze, Doughty also made appearances at a New Zealand Representative level, appearing for the NZ-XI Women in 2022 and being named in a WHITE FERNS squad that toured Australia in late 2020.
Wellington Blaze Coach Lance Dry thanked Doughty for her lengthy service with the team.
“Dee has been a vital part of our team’s success over the years, winning both [T20 and One Day] trophies as a part of the Blaze squad. Her hard work on and off the field hasn’t gone unnoticed and making 150 plus appearances for Wellington reflects that.” said Dry.
Cricket Wellington thanks Dee for her service to cricket in Wellington at both a representative and club level. Doughty’s career will be celebrated this summer at a private event with friends and family.
