Reigning Men’s Domestic Player of the Year Nathan Smith has been included in the Firebirds 12-man squad traveling to Tauranga today and is set to make his season debut against the Auckland Aces tomorrow.

Paceman Yahya Zeb, who was given a contract after Smith was elevated to the BLACKCAPS contract list, is also included and could be selected to make his Wellington debut tomorrow.

The Firebirds’ depth has been a topic of discussion throughout the preseason, boasting a large playing group due to a significant number of BLACKCAPS-contracted and casually contracted players who have made themselves available for selection.

Adam Milne and Logan van Beek make way for the two pacers, as both absentees manage workloads as a part of their performance plans for the summer.

The rest of the squad remains unchanged as the Firebirds look forward to a clash with Auckland at Bay Oval tomorrow.

Watch Round 2 of the Ford Trophy live from 10:30am on Wednesday 23rd October as the Wellington Firebirds take on the Auckland Aces at Bay Oval in Tauranga.
