The Wellington Firebirds are pleased to announce the transfer of pacer Yahya Zeb for the 2024/25 summer season. He will fill the spot in the Firebirds contract list that opened due to Nathan Smith’s promotion to a Blackcaps contract.

Zeb, a 2023/24 Auckland-contracted player, offers an aggressive style of bowling that harnesses his unique pace and bounce to unsettle batsmen. His addition to the Firebirds' roster promises to enhance the team's bowling depth and provide a fresh, energetic option in the pace attack that will complement the existing stocks nicely.

Commenting on the signing, Wellington Firebirds' Head Coach Shane Jurgensen expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition to the squad.

“Yahya is an exciting player and we think he will be a good addition to our group. His aggression with the ball is something we’re keen to harness and bring to our side. We’re excited to see how he will work with Azhar Abbas, our Bowling Coach, and integrate with our group of pacers,” said Jurgensen.

“Yahya's potential and his ability to deliver sharp spells in the middle of games is something we’re excited by. We believe his energy and talent will greatly benefit our team.”

Yahya Zeb, eager for this new chapter in his career, shared his excitement about joining the Firebirds.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to make the move down and join Wellington this summer and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in. There’s a great group of guys here and the level of support we’re provided, on and off the field, is exciting to be a part of”, said Zeb.

Zeb’s arrival completes the Firebirds contract list for 2024/25, with a group that includes 16 domestic contracts and 5 Blackcaps contracted players. The full group of 2024/25 Firebirds can be viewed on our website.
